Buzzards Bay 14
LOA 17’3” LWL 14’ Beam 5’10” Draft 2’6”
The Buzzards Bay 14 is L. Francis Herreshoff’s answer to Llewelyn Howland’s request for a slightly larger version of Nathaniel Herreshoff’s tried and true 12 ½. Mr. Howland, a member of the founding family of the Concordia Company, was a discerning customer and the resulting boat was a svelte little yacht of robust construction set atop L. Francis’ signature rabbeted ballast keel.
With a Marconi sail plan of approximately the same square footage as the 12 ½, the design provides ease of handling with a bit more run to drive through the inevitable chop of a Buzzards Bay afternoon.
A completely restored 1982 example of LFH’s design number 86 is available for purchase from IYRS. If you like the father’s work, check out what the artistic son could do.
