Career Development

Throughout their IYRS experience, students are inspired and guided towards a fulfilling and meaningful career by building an in-demand skillset. Our curricula are specifically designed to fulfill industry needs and close the skills gap, and our IYRS externship program requires real-world application of a student’s education.

Our career development team works one-on-one with each student to help establish individual goals and a plan to achieve them. More than 500 companies across the United States and beyond seek to hire IYRS graduates.

The IYRS Career Development team helps each student:

• Identify externship opportunities
• Develop job search skills
• Explore career opportunities
• Learn career & industry research methods
• Write a resume
• Develop interview skills
• Develop critical networking skills

Connect With Employers

IYRS’s career services team connects you with potential employers through pizza-fueled lunch & learns and field trip tours that give you an inside look at company culture and career paths.

Write A Resume

Career development is threaded throughout our curriculum from day one. A recruiter and resume expert gives a workshop at the begining of each term. Then, students turn in their resumes for review and consultation.

The workshop covers formatting best practices, trends in resume writing, keyword development and more.

Get Interview Prep

IYRS helps you prepare for externship and job interviews through a dedicated workshop that offers both general tips and industry-specific guidance, giving you the skills and confidence to succeed in the interview process.

About Career Day

Why do we emphasize leadership and work values at IYRS?

Employers consistently tell us technical skills are important but those “soft skills” are what set great employees apart from the rest. That is why at IYRS, work values aren’t just an add‑on – they are built right into the curriculum and everything we do. Professionalism, punctuality, safety, and maintaining a clean, efficient shop are part of your daily practice and part of your grade. Students work in hands‑on teams, gaining real experience collaborating with different personalities and navigating real‑world workplace dynamics.

Employers see the value in these “soft skills” and it positions our graduates to move quickly into supervisory and management roles—and stand out in competitive hiring pools.

We also host ongoing leadership and professionalism sessions on topics like:

  • Understanding workplace leadership
  • Giving and receiving feedback
  • What to do when you make a mistake
  • Customer and client interactions

These sessions leverage the real‑world experience of our students, many of whom are career changers and emerging professionals, and may occasionally include guest speakers from industry.

At IYRS, you don’t just learn a craft. You learn how to lead.
