Valentina Lopez Preciado '24, a native of Queretaro, Mexico whose daughter is attending school in Rhode Island, had been interested in continuing her own education.
"I had already taken classes a few years ago in other 3D design programs but had not had the opportunity to finish a certificate or degree," said Valentina. "I first looked at the school's website and immediately the 3D-design aspects of the Digital Modeling & Fabrication program stood out to me."
Once she applied and was accepted, reality began to set in.
"When I entered the school, I thought I was in over my head," said Valentina. "But, little by little, I fell in love with the whole program. I am very grateful to find this school because I learned many things that I never imagined and I am very excited to be able to continue learning despite my age."
She applied the Rhino skills she developed in the Digital Modeling & Fabrication program at IYRS to the field of jewelry design. Using a variety of techniques including 3D printed molds, conventional rubber molds, and lost wax casting, Valentina created a series of prototypes in pewter for her capstone project.
"In this program I learned many things," said Valentina. "I want to continue learning, even though I am undecided whether to continue in another of the excellent programs offered by IYRS, the Composites program, or continue learning in the field of jewelry."
