Student Services

We offer many services, opportunities, and activities for students to enhance their time at IYRS. With monthly social events, field trips, small class sizes, industry externships, and valuable tools and sessions through Career Development, students have many opportunities to maximize their educational experience and create personal relationships and lasting memories at IYRS.

Student Activities

We're all about community and want you to feel welcome from the start. Student activities occur at least monthly to connect students with our campus and each other. From student social events like Friendsgiving, to Coffee with the President, to your End-of-Program Celebration, you'll find plenty of ways to get to know other students and enjoy your time at IYRS. Graduation & Launch Day, one of the most exciting days on campus, is a time for friends and family to celebrate your and your classmates’ achievements and experience the excitement of seeing student-built boats launched in Newport Harbor for the first time.

Career Development 

With its industry-aligned programs and partnerships, IYRS students enjoy high job placement rates. Employability is one of our school's many strengths. Our Career Development program helps prepare students for successful careers through industry externship opportunities, resume writing assistance, interview skill development, job search skills, networking opportunities, and more.

Externship Program

Each student applies what they’ve learned in their IYRS program to a real-world industry position. The externship offers the opportunity for students to continue developing their skills in an industry setting while receiving valuable resume-building experience. Many of our students receive offers of full-time employment at the conclusion of their externship.

Job Board

The IYRS Job Board connects our students and alumni to new employment opportunities. The Job Board is an excellent resource not only for students and alumni looking for their next opportunity, but for employers who are specifically interested in hiring IYRS graduates. 

Career Day

Our annual on-campus career fair offers valuable networking and career exploration opportunities for all IYRS students and alumni. The event provides the opportunity for students, alumni, and the greater Newport community to explore and meet with hiring companies in the marine trades, composites manufacturing, design and innovation, and other industries to identify job opportunities and form professional connections.
