Instructor: Tara Regan and Tim Shields, Hinckley Yacht Services

Tara Regan is the first woman to be hired as a General Manager for The Hinckley Company. She has been the manager at the Southwest and Northeast Harbor Hinckley yards in Maine and is now based at the flagship yard in Portsmouth, Rhode Island. Prior to working at The Hinckley Company, she gained experience as the marina manager at the largest full-service boat yard on Cape Cod.  She also holds a 100 ton Captain's license and is very active within the marine industry and various marine trades associations.

Tim is the Vice President of Service at Hinckley Yacht Services.  Hinckley operates 10 full service boat yards up and down the East Coast.  Hinckley’s service team not only works on their own brands (Hinckley, Hunt and Morris) but they also service any make or model of yacht.  Before being responsible for the division, Tim was the General Manager of Hinckley Portsmouth, their largest yard and the 2018 recipient of “Boatyard of the Year “award from ABBRA.  He currently sits on the Board of Directors for ABBRA.  Tim also held the position of Director of Customer Service and was responsible for training and delivery of new yachts.  Tim has a prior background as a Director of Marketing, having spent 15 years in the apparel business working for Bill Blass, Arnold Palmer and Patagonia.

The class provides an introduction to basic business accounting and finance. General concepts to be discussed are cash basis versus accrual based financial reporting, revenue recognition, budgeting and financial and tax reporting. Additionally, we will review how to read financial statements such as a balance sheet and a profit and loss statement.

Kim has worked in business development and marketing since 2002. She spent ten years as VP, Business Development at AccuData Integrated Marketing, creating data-driven direct marketing campaigns for Fortune 500 and Fortune 1000 clients including Comcast, Hughes Network Systems, and LendingTree.

This seminar will help students understand the function of marketing within an organization and how to use different marketing channels to drive sales and brand awareness. We will cover the basics of various marketing channels and how and when to use them, as well as resources and service providers commonly used. Marketing channels covered will include:

Presenter: Carter Richardson '04, owner of East Passage Boatwrights

Carter was a founding partner of East Passage Boatwrights in 2006.  Since opening the shop, EPB has been involved in multiple award-winning restorations and this summer will be launching their first production style new build, the East Passage 24.  Carter is also the host of the podcast Around the Buoy.
 
This class will offer a realistic view of what it is like to start and run your own small business.  From developing and implementing a business plan, hiring employees and expanding, Carter will share insights and experiences from 13 years of owning and operating East Passage Boatwrights.  Topics for the evening will include:
