The double braid Class I splice has been the workhorse of the cruising fleet for more than fifty years. Though mind-bending for the uninitiated, it's beautifully simple once well understood, and one of the quickest splices to make. Strong, secure, and elegant, it's the most seamanlike way to put an eye in a double braid.
Until recent days, the proper way to do Class II covered eye splice in core-dependent rope was a mystery to most: few knew how, and fewer could accomplish a tidy splice that hid the cover flap. See the mystery laid bare, the pitfalls exposed, and the method explained in a simple and understandable manner. This workshop will be taught by Jonathan Thurston of Lanex Yachting and Ben Zartman of Zartman Rigging.
Please bring the following tools to the workshop:
Samson fids
Leather palm
3" Ceramic knife - Farberware
12" Wooden or plastic ruler
24" Wire puller (available in class $15)
Needle (available in class $3)
