This hands-on course is all about getting comfortable with boat systems on board a typical boat of 50 feet or less and learning basic wiring and plumbing skills for a successful season on the water. We will review tools needed, wiring techniques and electrical best practices, batteries and load calculation, hoses and pumps, and much more. You will learn basic installation of components including lights, radios and electronics. Participants will also learn how to power up and test bilge pumps along with other boat systems.

This course will be taught at IYRS's waterfront campus in downtown Newport by IYRS alumna Beth Burlingame '12  who is ABYC certified in marine electrical, systems, and diesel, and by IYRS Marine Systems Program Assistant John Volpe '23.
