In partnership with the Newport International Boat Show, IYRS will be hosting three technical training workshops. This year's talks will include 3-hour workshops for Multi-Meters and Electrical Troubleshooting, Cable Sizing and Crimping, and Gel Coat Repair.
Your purchase of a Tech Talk class includes a General Admission ticket to the Show. Purchase tickets online in advance, as limited quantities are available.
About Our Workshops
Multi-Meters and Electrical Troubleshooting.
Taught by IYRS Marine Systems educator Greg Jones, participants will learn the use of their Multi-Meter / DVOM as well as troubleshoot common electrical issues on the Sim. Participants are encouraged to bring their own Multi-Meter. Max 12 Students per class. Location: IYRS Campus, Brooks Bldg., Marine Systems Classroom.
Cable Sizing and Crimping.
Taught by IYRS Marine Systems educator Greg Jones, participants will learn the common failure causes as well as the correct planning and sizing considerations for marine wiring and cabling. Participants will learn proper wire and cable crimping and test their work. Max 15 Students per class. Location: IYRS Campus, Brooks Bldg., Marine Systems Classroom.
Gel Coat Repair
Join Composites Hall-of-Famer Bob Lacovara and learn the science and art of gel coat repair with a focus on hands-on instruction. Through in-shop demonstrations, you will discover why cracks occur and gain practical skills in how to restore gel coat with professional results. Max 12 Students per class. Location: IYRS Campus, Brooks Bldg., Composites Classroom

Pricing: $125, includes admission to 1 Tech Talk (Select which class and time within the drop down ticketing check out process). The purchase also includes a GA ticket to the Newport Boat Show
Location: IYRS School of Technology & Trades, 449 Thames St., Newport, RI
Parking: We recommend parking at Easton’s Beach and taking the Newport Boat Show shuttle to the Red Parrot drop-off location. From there, it's about an 8-minute walk to IYRS. The shuttle operates from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Limited parking is available at IYRS for an additional fee, if space permits.
