Women's Systems and Electrical Weekend - 1/21 & 1/22

This hands-on course for women only is all about getting comfortable with boat systems and learning basic wiring and plumbing skills for a successful season on the water. This course will be taught at IYRS's waterfront campus in downtown Newport by IYRS alumna Beth Burlingame '12  who is ABYC certified in marine electrical, systems, and diesel. She holds a USCG 50 ton master license.


Marine Systems Introduction & Electrical Basics

Learn about the systems that you will find on board a typical boat of 50 feet or less. We will review tools needed, wiring techniques and electrical best practices, batteries and load calculation, hoses and pumps, and much more. Heavy on practice, light on lectures!
Join fellow students and your instructor for an optional group lunch and/or dinner (cost not included in registration). Spouse or guest welcome.


Installing, Testing & Troubleshooting

Day two focuses on basic installation of some components introduced in day one including lights, radios and electronics. Participants will also learn how to power up and test bilge pumps along with other boat systems.
