Normally on any given day in Restoration Hall you would see a number of battens, ranging in thickness and length, being used for any number of reasons. They’d be wrapped around the frames of a beetle cat to mark fair lines for the next plank, or running down the stem rabbet to mark the rabbet run at the stem to keel joint, or maybe they’d be bent around points on a glued up mast to begin spar shaping.
